Preview: Anime Art Project – Part 2 feat. Lupin (from Lupin The 3rd)

Last week we previewed Ash Ketchum! This is Part 2 with the ever-so-cool, smart, and stealthy ladies man. The 1 and the only, Lupin The 3rd. He's been a personal favorite around the AnmlHse, and I myself have always respected the man for his fashion sense and his playboy antics (look at the size of those titties to the left. sheesh). Basically with Lupin, I wanted to go with that Street Etiquette kind of style. Clean, classic, and dashing. The shoes were modeled after Clarks Weaver Boots. The suit was modeled after Tom Ford and the tie/belt was to be reminiscent of Rugby Ralph Lauren, respectively. Added some metal spikes to the elbow patches of the suit to give it a little edge. This is my favorite of the series thus far! But what do you think? The whole concept is to bridge Anime’s original character style with a modern-day Fashion twist. Most of these mangas/shows had some really cool characters with trendsetting Style & great Fashion sense, so we wanted to play around with that idea but give it an update. This is Part 2 of an on-going series that we’ll be creating! Expect to see characters from popular Animes all the way to underground favorites. We’re trying to post at least ONCE A WEEK, every Saturday. Preview: Anime Art Project – Part 1 feat. Ash Ketchum (from Pokemon)

Here's an early Preview of a new project that I'm working on with veteran ANML, Keith Squirrel. We've been working on a bunch of Projects this past year, and although we don't know how far we're going to take this in particular we know there's endless possibilities. An art gallery with original prints? Anime Wall Scrolls, like the ones you find at Comic Book & Video Game shops? Trading cards? At the end of the day, this is what we do and we just want to share these images with you guys. So far now I'll just be blogging good quality previews of this project, and also another Project that we have in the works too. -------------------------------------------------- As far as styling goes, we wanted to keep Ash pretty true to streetwear. He's still rocking his snapback, which will end up being an AnmlHse hat when this Project is finished. He's wearing a unisex American Apparel sleeveless hoody, as well as Mr. Fantastic Air Max 90's on his feet. We wanted to keep his style TRUE to Ash as well, so he's still wearing fingerless bike gloves (fucking Hipster on a fixie). The bike was my favorite part of Pokemon Red/Blue so we definitely had to add that in there. We also had to give a little dynamic and add some more fluidity to this pose by giving him a Raccoon tail. I thought that was a pretty cool twist. What do you think? The whole concept is to bridge Anime’s original character style with a modern-day Fashion twist. Last weekend I was invited to celebrate Yours Truly's 1 Year Anniversary party. Yours Truly is quite possibly NYC's premier Women's boutique, located in the heart of Bushwick, Brooklyn. This was only my 2nd time visiting the shop but everyone made me feel right at home. They had a Cinco De Mayo kegger/BBQ going on with good music, great people, style, graffiti... what else could you possibly ask for? By the way, their backyard graffiti set-up is easily 1 of the trillest out here. Perfect backdrop for photographers and it helps cultivate a very comfortable, artistic setting for everyone in attendance. Shen's infamous thumb of approval

I've been seeing a bunch of these "zombified" photos of celebs and half-naked women all over Tumblr this past month, and it wasn't until recently that I found out who created them. Dela Deso, aka Richie Velazquez runs a Tumblr that you can follow HERE, and the art he posts is just hella wavy. I sent him a few pics and within a day he sent them back to me, GRIME'd out. Raider Klan's (or better known as RVIDXR KLVN), newest member ETHELWULF just released his latest project and I'm fortunate enough to be hosting it. I met him via Twitter after releasing my Trill Wave mixtape last month, and we connected off of the music he was creating and the art I was creating. I'ma say it like this, his music purely embodies that authentic Memphis sound, mixed with the catchy Trillwave vibe popularized by fellow klansman SpaceGhost Purrp, and A$AP Rocky. Witty flows, mixed in with the great production by Konflict OD and you have a great body of work right here. 2012 is definitely collab season! RVIDXR KLVN aka RAIDER KLAN is a movement created by producer/artist/rapper, SpaceGhostPurp! I've been a fan of Purp since he first dropped his BLVCKLVND RADIO 66.6 project last year, so a collab of this caliber is definitely exciting for us. Below is a teaser that me and the homie Keith Squirrel have been working on since we first hopped on this project. This design has yet to be finished, but best believe you can expect a fresh version of this design on black hoodies / heather grey crewnecks in the next month! What do you think?

Last night, Streets Dept held their first art show at the PhilaMOCA. The turnout was a great look for street art in Philadelphia and included works from Joe Boruchow, Kristin Smith, Nom Now, Jessie Hemmons (Ishknits), Get Up, Amber Lynn (Project Gastric), and Yis Goodwin (NoseGo), who created the amazing mural below. Philadelphia takes pride in being one of the largest resource for art in the US and the mural arts program is an excellent example of that by showing what Philadelphia has to offer with outstanding visuals in every area of the city. About 100 murals are put up in the city every year done by artists from many diverse backgrounds leaving every area untouched. This month mark's Mural Arts Month to celebrate Philadelphia's Mural Arts Program. In honor of that, I've compiled a few photos of murals I stumble on frequently around Philadelphia. Starting off with the mural below, which can be found on the corner of 20th and Arch going towards the Franklin Institute or Logan Square. If you ever drive down South Broad from Center City a lot, you can't miss this mural on Broad and Lombard in the parking lot of a Subway. This mural resides in a parking lot across from Fiso's Lounge near 15th and South. It is dedicated to famous Philadelphian billiard player, Edward "Chick" Davis. Right over on Broad and Reed St, in the parking lot of a funeral home, is a mural of Philadelphia opera singer and actor Mario Lanza. All my buddies live on Dickinson St in South Philly, so I frequent this mural near the 1600 block of Dickinson a lot. Here's some history for ya. I've shot this mural of Frank Sinatra about three months ago, one of the most outstanding murals in Philadelphia that resides on Broad and Wharton in South Philly aside a 4-story building which was created in 1999. Over the past few months I've watched construction on the side of the building go from a 1-story to a 3-story residential cover up. It's somewhat upsetting that all you can see now is Sinatra's cap and the only explanation from the owner of the lot: "I need to build this house. It's legal." Plenty of locals are upset about it, but with this economy you're bound to lose a few murals in the process. One of my favorite murals is behind a Rite Aid on Broad and Christian. It's not as serious as the rest and has an imaginative and playful feel. Reminds me of a Philly version of Where the Wild Things Are. I have no knowledge of this mural except that I pass it a lot going to my local Shop Rite. It's spans about half a block long. Even Chinatown has a few murals in place. A mural in the parking lot of Save-a-Lot on 13th and Washington in South Philly. When you're in South Philly you'll see how multi-cultural it is when it comes to the people and this particular area is a heavy mix of asian folks. A few extras passing by on South Street. If you aren't familiar with PandaRadio, here's a bit of background as to what it's about. I love music. But more so, I love the culture and the vibe within artists that create the music. The drive and determination inspires me. I also have an eerie knack for being ahead of the curve when it comes to underground music. Almost every single artist I've ever featured are artists that not only I believe in, but artists that personally catch my attention and deserve a chance of being heard. New music gets premiered every day, on a number of blogs. And sometimes, certain artists might get overlooked. The whole purpose of this mix is to put a bit of a spotlight on the underground stuff that normal everyday people would never give the attention. It's almost been 2 months since my last PandaRadio playlist, but in no way has the music stopped. People have been asking when the next one will drop, and very soon might I add. Artist Showcase: Speak Brooch by Mr. Washington

Today's "Artist Showcase" is all about a specific product, designed entirely by designer, Brandon Washington aka Mr. Washington. I used to see these brooches everywhere, never really knowing who was behind them. Low and behold, I find out a fellow Art School major that I knew mutually was responsible for them! I love the simplicity of it, channeling the inner Rolling Stones logo and a bit of Andy Warhol, this iconic piece can be worn for any occasion; male or female and they come in a variety of colorways. Read below for a brief description on what the piece means, and what it's all about.

The Speak Brooch is a piece that snickers at consumerism and the hype of mainstream products and trends. It is a light-hearted piece that is not afraid to poke fun at itself, considering its contradictory nature. Speak is the voice that says we are all consumers who often fall victim to hype, and it is sometimes good to give into your desires. Speak is made from aluminum and felt, then laser cut and etched into the hand drawn mouth shape. - Mr. Washington

Intentionally designed to to mock a hyped product, various colors paired with aluminum creates the “shiny-new-object effect.” Felt is used for its tendency to become worn and faded like trends, aluminum, of course, for its shiny property. - Mr. Washington

And so it goes, Panda Radio Volume 2 has been a month long process in the making but finally the design is complete. S/O to the art work by ALFIE and the color work by Keith Squirrell, and modeled by our biggest fan; SANDY B. I was bored last night, so I started working on a custom 'plaid print' for AnmlHse. I think every brand has at least 1 plaid print, so it's only right we have our own! After the emergence of Streetwears popularity, there's been an abundance of prints released each season. I'm about 70% done so far, but colorwise I think it's coming out cool so far. On any given day, there's always random designs being done by the AnmlHse crew that are never seen. Sometimes because of budget, other times because we actually forgot we designed it. Seriously. Well, here's a concept that we worked on for the "Knockoff Collection" we released February 2010 of last year. Initially this was going to be a snapback, much like The Hundreds (which was the original inspiration). We're also paying homage to the 3 areas that generally all of our member is from, "NYC - PHILLY - DMV". This design is about %85 complete, so you may see this in the future :O)
